WAR TO FREE THE SLAVES.

WORK FOR YOU,
YOU HAVE TO PAY THEM. IN 1861, YOU CREATED THE FEDERAL

SLAVERY, IT'S ABOUT THE
FEDERAL GOVERNMENT

Have you noticed everyone's just letting you go on and on while you jump from one half-baked justification to the next?

Justifying what?
That the South seceded because of Extortion and Coercion?
Nothing half-baked about realizing the truth.

Protective Tariffs
Federal Income Taxes of 1861
Reconstruction
Sharecropper's Debt
Under-representation in government.
Political propaganda
Union blockades aka "The Anaconda Plan"

I'm happy to "go on and on", because brain-dead people like you need to learn history.

Confederate States wrote declarations of secession and it didn't say "we're not happy with upcoming federal taxes" - they said "this is to protect the institution of slavery and to keep the white man at the top of the natural order".

So even if your amateur legalism did hold up to the law as it stood in 1860 (and it doesn't), it doesn't change the fact that none of this was the declared intention of the CSA.

That's why everyone's just letting you waste your time. It's nonsense.

The Constitution Of The Confederate States only addresses the way the Confederacy will run its own government.
It does NOT impose any tariffs or restrictions to the Union.

But The Union constantly and without reservation impose taxes and tariffs and continued to occupy Confederate land AFTER South Carolina Seceded.

If you can't see the difference, then you dumb enough to think the War was all about The Union wanting to end slavery.
Guess what?
The Union didn't have slaves, so that WAS NOT AN ISSUE!
The Union was not enslaved by the Confederacy, so that WAS NOT AN ISSUE!
The Confederacy declared they would not import slaves outside of Confederate Territory, so that WAS NOT AN ISSUE!
The Confederacy declared they would not enslave other cultures, so that WAS NOT AN ISSUE.

However, the events which led up to the South's secession were TARIFFS.
It was Major Robert Anderson secretly relocating his companies and cannons INTO FORT SUMTER, and refusing to vacate.

Here's a simple timeline:
December 1860 - South Carolina Secedes
January 12, 1861 - Governor Pickens writes a letter to President Bucannon demanding he surrender Fort Sumter.
March 4, 1861 - Lincoln offers to vacate Fort Sumter if it would guarantee Virginia's Loyalty to the Union. "A state for a fort is no bad business."

And before any talk about slavery, the South complained about Protective Tariffs of the early 1800's were unfair.
Fighting slavery was never a motivation for the North until South Carolina declared secession in 1860
The Emancipation Proclamation wasn't issued until 1863

"In the United States before 1865, a slave state was a state in which the slave trade was legal, while a free state was one in which it was not. There were some enslaved persons in most free states in the 1840 census, and the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 specifically stated that an enslaved person remained enslaved even if their owner took them to a free state."

So apparently the Union had no problem with it.
Until South Carolina Seceded.

The tax was raised so the Union would have funds to fight the war. The Civil War was fought, in part, to free slaves.

But the slaves weren't set free.
They weren't allowed to leave the plantations, in what was called "Sharecropper's Debt Laws".
Apparently nobody understands the meaning of "free".

Taxed? Yes.
Were their votes counted fairly? No.
Were the Protective Tariffs eliminated? No.

Did the South continue to import slaves from Africa? No.
Did the South import slaves from anywhere outside Confederate territory? No.
Did the South try to enslave any other cultures? No.

Slaves were freed by executive fiat by the Emancipation Proclamation which for practical purposes at the time, only freed slaves in Union held territory. Legislatively, slavery was outlawed on January 31st 1865 by the 13th amendment.

Were there problems that needed to be addressed? Yes and they were and continue to be.

I never said slavery wasn't wrong, but it was not the cause of the Civil War.

It was Tariffs. It was secession in 1860.
All of that came before the "You racist Southerners just want to own slaves!" argument.
The majority of people living in the South did NOT want to own slaves.

It might have been a valid point if the South's Slaveholders fought a war with the South's Non-Slaveholders. Wouldn't it?

But that never happened.

In fact the North fought a war with the South's Non-Slaveholders.

Marinate on that fact for a while. Let it sink in.

Not to mention only 1% of people owned slaves.

Sorry Roy. You are flat out wrong. Slavery wasn't the only issue, but it was an issue and not a small one.

I know because a family member from Maine, fought and died in that war and he hated slavery. It was the reason he joined and he gave his life during the siege of Petersburg.

The North didn't care about slavery, until they almost lost their ability to profit from it.
You could make the same scenario if the issue was gambling.

Once upon a time, America made money by gambling.
The South got really good at gambling, while the North didn't.
The North said "Come on, fellas. We're trying to make money, but we can't. We're going to try to sell hamburgers, instead. But we need a little financial boost to get started. Can you help us?"
The South said "Okay", and continued to contribute gambling money to the North's hamburger business.
But the North still couldn't make a profit. So the North demanded more money from the South.
The South protested, but kept contributing. They felt that some day, the North would pass the tipping point, and finally profit and support themselves.

Eventually, the North was taking half of the South's gambling profits, and the South said "Enough! We're leaving."

That's when the North decided to go to war with the South. The North invaded.
They began to trash talk the concept of gambling, all the while raiding the casinos and stealing the South's money.
Trash talk included "You beat your black jack dealers! You hate the black jack dealers, don't you?"
The North even drew pictures of casino owners beating up black jack dealers on their hamburger wrappers. (It kinda looked like the political cartoon you posted.)

All the South wanted to do was walk away, and continue to be self-sufficient.

That meant the Northern Socialists could take money from black people, too.
