Communists in 1920: Oh, but that is because the Russians have to rebuild after the czars! Just wait five years, and Lenin will have everything in shape, and the Soviet Union will have the best factories, the best schools and universities, the best hospitals!

Communists in 1930: Yes, yes, Lenin got it wrong. But now Comrade Stalin has taken matters into his own hands, and in five years the Soviet Union will have the best ... etc.

Communists in 1940: Yes, Stalin was sabotaged by the counter-revolutionaries but now he's gotten rid of them and just wait five years...

Communists in 1950: Well, that was because of Hitler's invasion. Just wait five years and ...

Communists in 1960: Yes, well, Stalin was a tyrant. But now that Comrade Khrustjov is in charge, it is a matter of a few years - five at the most - before the Soviet Union has the best factories, the best etc...

Communists in 1970: Oh, but that is because Khrustjov failed where Bresjnev will succeed. Just wait five years and you'll see...

Communists in 1980: Give Bresjnev a chance... It's just a matter of a few years!

Communists in 1990: Oh, but that was because it wasn't real Socialism. Next time...

Philosophy should not try to change what is right and wrong, but analyze why it is.

Otherwise sin is pride.

Everyone who follows them will pay not only for pride but also for laziness in not questioning the validity of their doctrines.

So when you say "socialism", what do you mean?

I think you need to explain your definition of socialism first, since the claim here is that it doesn’t work.

There is only one definition of socialism: a political and economic theory of social organisation which advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated by the community as a whole.

And it sucks.

So I’m wondering which countries under your definition of socialism have led you to feel this way?

Here is an explanation from the Democratic Socialists of America: https://www.dsausa.org/about-us/what-is-democratic-socialism/

This is Republican propaganda. Your definition of socialism looks more like Marxism or the origins of Communism. Did you follow the link? It explains it pretty well there I feel.

lol my definition of socialism came from a dictionary. Is the English language now Republican propaganda? 😂

Memory loss from all that dope you smoked to make you think socialism is good? France was basically on strike and rioting last year because of the stark inequities between social classes...

These countries aren't socialist. They are market economies.

That’s why I think they need to explain their definition of socialism first. It’s been many different things over the years. At one point Hitler claimed to be socialist but he was just saying that to get votes.

Don't get me wrong, America has Socialist apespects to it, but full blown socialism doesn't work in government.
Just look at some examples. They all end the same. Starving populace and poverty for all.

1. Venezuela
2. Brazil
3. Soviet Union
4. Eastern Bloc after WW2
5. North Korea

The questions are, why is she homeless? How did she get there? Did she waste her money? What is her story?
You see, people have freedom of choice. So, they can spend how they want. If they don't make wise choices, they end up on the streets.
In socialism, most if not, many would end up like that.

Why are you assuming she wasted her money or made bad choices, of all the possibilities out there? Maybe she got gentrified out of her home that she’s been living in for the past 70 years. That’s just as plausible of a reason.
0 ups, 4y
I'm not assuming. I'm asking questions.

You can try all you want, but you can't make people's choices for them. Yes, the story does matter, because it tells us why and how she got there. You can't just say, "This resulted from capitalism" without the understanding. Make sense?

Again you’re trying to make it seem like homelessness is a choice.

Sometimes it is. Asheville NC is full of people who choose to be homeless as a means of staying off the grid. Their all young viable adults choosing to mooch off society.
0 ups, 4y
Yes sometimes it is. I’m not talking about those people. In the past few years there has been an astronomical growth of “newly homeless “ on the streets, families, multi-generational. They’re not choosing as a family to be homeless. Someone is disabled, or laid off and can’t find work, there are many reasons.

Honestly, there is a lot more to it. Where is it? Why? And how did he get there? What choices did he make? When was this photo taken? I live in PA near Pittsburgh, went to a Pirates game, and learned that people were literally faking being homeless. One dude on minute was begging. The next he's on his phone saying, "They're (fans) coming out now."
0 ups, 4y
Maybe he came back from Iraq injured with PTSD and the VA refused to help him because the military gave him a dishonorable discharge like they’ve been low-key doing to cut costs of having to take care of vets. Maybe he has chronic pain from TBI or shrapnel in his leg and his doctor got him opiate-dependent then kicked him off and without healthcare, the only thing he can do is score heroin to keep from getting sick. How is that his choice?

Please tell me why there are thousands on the streets in California where there are extreme liberal policies.
1 up, 4y
Well let’s see, there are more people in Cali, it’s a warm climate so easier to be homeless making it more attractive of a place to gravitate to, tourists are better for panhandling not to mention liberal people in general who might not kick them and tell them to get a job as much, oh and then there is the scandal where other states are sending their mentally ill homeless to California on a bus. It’s called “greyhound therapy:”

So you don’t think it would be easy for older people to end up homeless somehow through no fault of their own? Navigating the paperwork isn’t always easy and a lot of elderly can’t deal with much anymore.
0 ups, 4y
I mean, it says "one reason", so there is more to the problem.
0 ups, 4y,
2 replies
The reason I say that, is that there are a lot of people faking homelessness out there, taking away money and donations from the real homeless. And I have found quite a bit of homeless people put their donated earnings not trying to get back on their feet, but to dig a deeper rut in where they are. Mostly addiction.

he's alive. he looks healthy. he's got clothes, even a backpack. name one socialist country that have homeless people this fortunate.
1 up, 4y
Being alive is beside the point. Homeless die in numerous ways every day because they’re homeless. Poor healthcare is one. And he’s sitting so we don’t know if he can walk well. He looks skinny and possibly disturbed.

He might have brought the clothes and backpack with him when he got released from the VA hospital or evicted from his apartment. I don’t think the word “fortunate” applies here. He fought for our country, our freedom. Isn’t this what Trump keeps going on about, respecting our military?
