‘84 most likely. To my knowledge, M17s aren’t in service anymore in any of the branches.

I believe you are correct. However, I happen to have one at my home, so it could be me in 2020, too!

Let's hope you aren't using any Eastern Bloc M17 clone surplus cheek filters with them. They are thought (not sure if it was confirmed) to contain hexavalent chromium, which can be more dangerous for you than asbestos in some cases. They may also contain asbestos, as yknow, Eastern Bloc.

Polish MP4 filters are also a potential hazard, but im not sure.

If you can, buy some US cheek filters. Doesn't matter if they're expired because you only need the particulate layer. We aren't dealing with nukes here, just a virus lol. Although if you wanna be safe, try to find some non-expired cheek filters, which will have the filtering needed for NBC/CBRN situations.

It was an accidental take-home. It somehow got packed in my home goods. The Army overseas contractors were screwing up & I had to get my command to light a fire under their ass. My wife handled the house while I out processed Korea on last day possible. It was a rush. 🤣

In Korea at that time, our unit’s M.O.P.P. was solid olive drab and not woodland camouflage. I am only wearing the mask and hood.

For civilians, a soldier always carried MOPP gear in the field. It consisted of a charcoal suit, rubber gloves, and special rubber boots that fit over your combat boots & had extra flaps you tied around your boot. I believe total coverage was MOPP Level 5, IIRC. The most basic level is just a mask. Next is mask & hood.

There was nothing like going to level five in mid July to work on your Jeep. You wondered how long until you would drown in your own sweat!

The gear is designed to protect you from NBC attacks; nuclear, biological, chemical. I believe they call it something else today.

Try operating inside a Sherman with no ac in full MOPP! Some weight-loss right there! Good thing those masks came with a drinking tube!

I recognized the nomenclature of your moniker! Though I was assigned an antique M151 Willys Jeep, the 2ID had modern armor for the 80s. They had begun replacing Jeeps for HMMVs as I left. I wanted to get assigned a hummer but they were like 3 times the width of a tiny Jeep. So I’m glad I missed out. BTW I had a hardtop Jeep which was unusual. Never got wet, lol.

Well I hope you get your chance to join and learn a job you will love. You’ll meet interesting people and share hobbies etc. Get to go to interesting places, too. I learned German in HS & went as student exchange to Austria. So I liked foreign travel & signed up as a Korean linguist to get a Far East assignment. It was great knowing the language. Most Koreans appreciated your efforts learning the language, food, & culture.

It’s also advisable to get into peak shape before starting Basic. You will be stressed learning a lot in a short time. Being out of shape will make it worse for you. But it’s all worth it. So good luck to you. (I myself read a lot of US history: Civil War & WWII. I tend to like aircraft over vehicles but familiar with either)

well thank you im ok with aircraft i just tend to lean more towards vehicles the only planes i really know are the corsair b17 flying fortress b29 enola gay b24 b25 and the p51 mustang and douglass dive bomber
