eventually the population would reach saturation and the rate of new infections would reduce, as with flu

that depends on the whole curve. if everyone suddenly behaves right now, the curve would flatten again and getting to saturation would take many months. if, as seems more likely, we see an increasingly dramatic spike in new cases this summer, almost complete saturation could come in just a few months (but at a correspondingly horrific cost).

People don’t seem to be behaving. We will just have to wait and see what happens. Maybe it will go away on its own...that could happen...right? 😭

so far no indications of it fading on its own. the large number of active cases in some metropolitan areas and the high degree of infectiousness of this particular virus fairly well guarantee that no short-term abatement is forthcoming. we have to assume the worst and therefore act on the best advice currently available, which is EVERYONE distance and mask as much as possible, socialize face-to-face and congregate as little as possible, and EVERYONE minimize face-to-face contact with older and high-risk people. excuse my little monologue ( :
