In 2015 the CDC had inaccurately labelled hundreds of death certificates (mostly classified as "assault") instead of as the result of legal intervention. We have known for years that the official statistics grossly undercount the amount of killings and shootings committed by U.S. police every year. To this day, there is no sincere obligatory collection of this type of statistics on a federal level. Many police jurisdictions do not record race when it comes to officer-involved shootings.
