Somehow I knew that claim was false.

The democrats started a civil war to keep their slaves, they instituted jim crow laws and fought against the civil rights act! Democrats are evil through and through!

I've been looking things up, and the stuff I read is that the Democrats and the Republicans basically SWITCHED their positions, meaning that everything the Republicans stand for today was what the Democrats used to stand for in those years and vice versa.

And now reasoning in your way of reasoning. If you see a 4 years old German child, will you make them pay for the horrors of the two world wars? In your logic you should.

The "evil democrats" you speak of don't exist anymore. Unless you count their skeletons lying six feet under. And unless somebody manages to unlock the secrets of necromancy, we won't ever see them again.

Of course, there is no good and evil. Only a fool would use those terms. We only invented those terms so we can differentiate ourselves from others. Back in the old days slavery was seen as an honest branch of business so people having an interest in this business, repulsive as we deem it today, was only natural. Abolishing slavery was therefore not to be expected without a fight. Today nobody would even question the opinion that slavery is a bad thing. But then again, slavery is just one of the many things for which this counts. Sex with children has only been banned in the 1970s and a lot of people were opposed to it. Today most people are revolted by the entire idea and can't imagine these bans were only set up so recently. And if you see now how much resistance there is against sustainable energy... Our great-grand-children will probably never understand. Political parties change their views based on the general consensus of the time they operate in. The democrat party is no different, nor is the republican party for that matter. The opinion of the Democrat party in the past is therefore based on the views on slavery back then, and the views of the Democrat party today is based on today's views.

Of course, you do that what you accuse the democrat party of. Hate for the sake of hating. And if you don't have a reason to hate, then we make a reason, and since the reason cannot be found in the Democrat party as it functions today, you see fit to judge the party on their views of the past. Even if the claim that the democrat party founded KKK was true (which it isn't), you cannot hold the people running the party today responsible. The people joining the party today do so because of the opinions and view the party has today, and because of those visions of the past.

The whole "democrats & republicans switched sides" is a lie from the democrat playbook. WHo is guilty of the modern day blackface debacle? NOT REPUBLICANS! WE FREED TO SLAVES and gave them rights democrats fought to let them have.

The whole "Democrats & Republicans didn't change policies and philosophies" is a lie from the Republican playbook.

Funny... I have this from an independent source. Point is that when the Republicans freed the slaves their total vision was more leftist than the Democrat party ever was. Plus what goes for the bad things, also goes for the good things. The good things the Republicans did in the past do not justify their bad actions today. So being beyond racist, threatening world peace today, unlawfully trying to make people pay for a wall they don't want, and trying to turn facts into lies is NOT justified by the fact that some people in the past ended slavery, no matter which party they belonged to.

That is the power of the individual, and therefore also the responsibility of the individual. One of the core essences of the American Dream, and it's odd that *I* must tell you that. You can also not praise me for the deeds of my grandfather, not can you condemn me for his faults. In the same manner I can judge neither the Republican party nor the Democrat party for their deeds today.

Like I said, you don't have a good reason to hate the Democrat party today, so you seek your reasons in the past, which no longer applies to the Democrat party as it functions today.

Oh, and I wonder if you can understand the full essence of slavery, it's pros, its cons, and how it actually functioned at all, and what the aftermath of abolishing it brought. Slavery is a very complex subject, after all.

If today's Democrats are guilty of what the Democrats of the 1860s through the 1960s did, then today's white people must be guilty of slavery, etc.

Fun fact... Black people too. My former boss, a black guy, once told me his grandfather (also black himself) was the proud owner of slaves. This shows that slavery is more complex than a lot of people think.
