I'm not a complete Dove, nor am I a total Hawk as I know that wars are terrible affairs, yet sometimes necessarry.
But unfuortunatiely, most wars are bad, and the truth about the "Bad Guys" are that there are no bad guys in the rank and file... only the rulers, are.
The rulers not all, but rulers with grand ambitions. Ambitions of empire, of glory; to make an immortal namae for themseves in the annals of history.
To be the greatest of kings; to be King of Kings, Lord of Lords. To be worshipped, to be studied and emulated. To be considered as God, or God himself.
As the love of money the root of all evil, secund unto it is lust for unbridled power.
But soldiers and warriors do what is ordered. Certainly there are evil men in the ranks, but also those of moral conviction, necessity, betterment of self, etc.. And given that most armies are filled with conscipts, it is not their choice to join anyways.
But they join or gladly obey conscription out of duty: for God, for country, and family.
If you want to place blame, blame it on the politicians, the kings, the oligarchs, and prime ministers,
Not the Warfighter.
