White Moves First

White making the opening move can actually give black an advantage. Unless people are really good the advantage of making the opening move is often lost pretty quickly.

You think you're joking but white tends to win more often than black does for that exact reason.

Is it still possible to lose as white? Of course it is. Happens all the time. But does it make sense for a losing white player to say "the white goes first advantage is a myth"? No, not at all.

It's actually a pretty good metaphor.
