These privileged white men; negotiated a Constitution that would end slavery in a generation. The notorious 3/5 compromise did not say slaves were only 60% human, for purposes of the census it said that a citizen who could not vote could only be counted as 3/5th of a person. Though the populations of free and slave states were equal, this tilted the House of Representatives in favor of freedom and prevented the formation of two nations, one slave, one free. That is one of the most brilliant compromises in history
