Well, I wasn't even thinking about the anti-brutality protests when I wrote my own comment.
I will admit that yesterday I had a more friendly encounter with the police... I was violating traffic rules, due to some confusion about the road situation, and the cop in question helped me out on how the situation was supposed to work (now I must admit, due to bad road design, it was very hard to see) and fine me (although he did fine a girl who was using her smart phone while cycling... β¬95... that's pretty high).... So, occasionally the police *can* be nice, even when you are in violation. But that does not erase the bad encounters I've had with the police and then I wasn't the one in violation (which makes it worse).
Still the brutality issue, is also something you rightfully mentioned. Now I know that this is not a US-only issue, as in the Netherlands where I am from, we also have a few cases of police brutality even with lethal consequences, although I must admit, not nearly as much as in the US, but still.
I've also heard a story in which the police was raiding a home of a drugs dealer... or so they thought... The owner of the house was innocent. As a matter of fact, the cops raided the wrong house as they had mistaken the address. I wonder if you won't hate the police when something like that happens to you. Of course, it was a mistake and the "suspect" was released very soon, but he's now traumatized and the question is if he'll even get over that.
"That's the stupidest thing I've ever heard" ... Good remark.... Well I have heard stupider things... yes hard to imagine but still, but still a good remark, as it was indeed pretty stupid. Thumbs up for bringing that police brutality thing up ππ
