"Trump Derangement Syndrome" indeed. It was a real illness all along: We just applied the designation to the wrong folks.

I've also heard him described as a stupid man's idea of a smart man and especially as a weak person's idea of a strong person.

He is indeed all of those things:

An upper-class avatar for lower/lower-middle class folks to wage their permanent war of jealousy against the middle/upper-middle class

What puzzles me is the support Trump gets from otherwise reasonable and successful people. They're a quiet contingent of his supporters, but I guess their traditional attachment to the Republican Party, tax cuts, and social stagnation that doesn't force them to think out of the box or challenge their social status keeps them on board.
