I realize I've been memeing a lot about Robert E. Lee in this stream lately. To be clear: I 100% don't support Lee's actions in leading Confederate troops into battle. The fact that he was from Virginia is irrelevant. He was a traitor to the United States, and he could have ended the war earlier. That said: after the Civil War was over, Lee urged reconciliation. He opposed the construction of Confederate memorials, and he told Southerners to raise their children to love the U.S. government. I use Lee's image in memes in the hopes of showing Southern conservatives that the "lost cause" narrative many of them have bought into is a lie.
