Yeah, but since King's Cross is a terminal station, Harry could be standing at the end of the track. Which would make the position of the locomotive for a train which is about to depart a bit odd, but not impossible.
Cover mistakes:

1. Harry wears a Gryffindor scarf, however this is this first year, and he has not yet been sorted. Since he almost got himself sorted into Slytherin this is a nasty detail. It has been speculated Harry could be on his way home, but his expression doesn't point that way.

2. A second train is to be seen, and clearly a muggle high speed train. Which is odd, since platform 9 3/4 was supposed to be concealed from Muggles.
