It supposedly takes place in the Taisho Era, hence the "Taisho Secret" that Tanjiro shares at the end of every episode. This is further supported by the power lines in the major cities as well as the existence of a railroad system in Japan, though I believe that originated earlier than the Taisho era (late Meiji, maybe?).

It was confusing because Rotten Tomatoes said something like 1500s
