In the book of Acts, the church at Jerusalem used a system that at first glance looks rather like socialism, but there were some fundamental differences:
- The church gave financial support only to those who needed it
- The believers shared not because it was required, but because Christ had transformed their hearts so that they gave of free will
- The believers often still had businesses of their own, though they gave some of the profits to the church
- And most importantly, it was God, not the Apostles, who directed the going-ons.
