Are you sure about that? The USA ruthlessly firebombed pretty much every major city in Japan at that time. All that wood and bamboo created raging fires, some cities over 90% destroyed by this method.
If you look at the photos of Hiroshima, it is consistent with fire damage. Stone structures left standing in perfect condition surrounded by fire charred remind of wood and bamboo structures, no indication of a blast radius.
