Here’s a fuller definition. I agree with much of this but I think the focus on “discrimination” is too narrow.
To me, it is just a way of narrowing overlapping identity categories so we get more precision: e.g. “poor whites,” “poor blacks,” “middle-age upper-class Vietnamese lesbians from Queens,” etc.
Many would object to the “SJW” or academic origins of this word, but whatever you want to call it, you can’t have nuanced conversations about how identity shapes experience until you do this on some level.
