What is the essence of addiction? How can you stop it before it takes over?

Well, I logged off for less than 24 hours and two things happened:
(1) Trump said something so dumb that I couldn't not meme about it, and
(2) When I did return, I checked my notifs to find a bunch of supportive comments that broke my heart.

So, I went on another ImgFlip binge today, but I will still be reassessing my involvement going forward. Definitely going to change some habits, like not getting sucked into endless political debates that go nowhere.

The essence of addiction is when a habit takes over to the point of negatively impacting your life and relationships.

Unfortunately, tonight I have to conclude I am addicted to ImgFlip itself.

It breaks my heart to have to do this. It's become such a creative outlet for me. I feel I've discovered talents within me that I never had before.

I've made friends. I've made haters. I love you all.

But it's becoming my life, and that's just not healthy.

I need to take a step back and maybe say bye for good.

I don't know how I'm going to resist the urge to come back this site whenever I have a new idea that I want to share with the world. It is an amazing platform for doing exactly that. But I think I'm just going to have to. If I come back here to post even one thing, then I am afraid I will just get sucked in again.

I hope I can find a balance but for now I need a break.

Addiction starts when you try something and you enjoy it. Then, you continue with it until your body has adapted so you can't live without it, meaning that your intakes of it drastically increase
