I posted a meme a couple days ago on this stream about bullying of me, much as others here have done. I figured it was time for me to share my own personal story of bullying.
However, it created a reaction I was not quite anticipating. It is hard to summarize what happened: in short, I received a pretty strong backlash regarding my own actions which others asserted instigated the bullying.
I do not want the bad taste of this discussion to linger and alter in any way the tone of this positivity-oriented stream.
So, I want to try to get this conversation back on the right footing by issuing a few apologies.
1. I apologize for “threatening to sue ImgFlip.” Be aware that I am a lawyer and interact with lawyers on a daily basis. My wife is also a lawyer. So my mind has a habit of jumping to legal places without me even realizing it, and I have a tendency to offer off-the-cuff legal hypotheticals as a result. It does not mean a whole lot to me to do so. However, I should have understood that pretty much everyone else here is not a trained lawyer and therefore regard lawsuits as scary and unusual things. So: I should have been more careful when discussing matters such as the potential for lawsuits against ImgFlip, or perhaps never aired such an opinion at all.
2. I apologize to anyone who has felt hurt by my cringe stream,
imgflip.com/m/Cringe_Hard. When I started this stream not long after joining ImgFlip, I was not aware of the existence of an “unwritten rule” saying something to the effect that memes about other memers should not be featured. What I did notice was that memes I created in response to other memes’ comments sections appeared in my profile, with a “submit this image” button. It felt like a waste to me to leave the memes unsubmitted. I figured I would have enough content to sustain my own personal politics-oriented stream. As some of you know I am rather productive, and I felt throttled by the 2-per-day meme submission limit in the “politics” stream. I also was unable to submit to PoliticsTOO at all within my first 30 days. All of this was the impetus for a new stream that I titled, in a tongue-in-cheek fashion (or so I thought), “Cringe_Hard.”
After a certain point in time, I began receiving criticism for this cringe stream concept. The attacks on the concept of this stream felt politically-motivated, as they most often came from conservatives, and so I did not pay them much mind and continued to barrel through...
