Sadly, it's true. On the front page where it says you get points if your memes or comments are UPVOTED, that's actually misleading. You ALSO get points JUST for commenting.
I don't recall the amount, but the points for a COMMENT MEME ("Add Meme") are higher than for a TEXT comment.
Also, you can get points for the FIRST text comment you make ON YOUR OWN MEME. No points for SUBSEQUENT text comments.
If you look at All Time Top on the front page, you'll see that MANY of them have a FEW HUNDRED *FEATURED* memes and TENS OF THOUSANDS of CREATIONS. It's because the REST of those are COMMENT MEMES. Often they'll be just something like "Ha!" or "Good One!"
There's one stream I often post in where the mod puts a comment meme like those on EVERY meme featured.
