Okay, Latin nazi moment: Da is singular but might be better plural as date, libertas should be accusative libertatem, since it's the object of the verbe da/dare, nec kind of means "and not/neither," and mors/morte should also be mortem.

So perhaps more instead like, "Date mihi aut libertatem aut mortem". Ftfy ;-)

I appreciate the feedback and honestly thought it would be libertatem, but Google Translate wouldn't play nice until I had it phrased the way I have it in the meme. :-P
Actually it seems to like "date" just as well, but for some reason it translates "libertatem" and "mortem" as dative nouns rather than accusatives. You're probably right, though.

You may have heard of the expression "Si vis pacem, para bellum": if you want peace, prepare for war. Pacem is the similar direct object of Vis/"you wish", pax in the nominative.

Google translate is really really sketchy with Latin in my experience, much better at other languages :-/

And yet it includes a translation. So no problem in reality.

In case anyone's confused, the idea is not Latin America, but a theorized-by-some American observation expressed in Latin.

Attributed by a few to Jefferson, but origin actually appears instead to be the Count Palatine of Posen speaking before the Polish Diet as cited in The Social Contract by Jean-Jacques Rousseau.

But Jefferson would certainly have approved.
