So far no conservatives have weighed in, but I’ll go first with Joe Biden, whom I support.
This was an easy one to condemn. His words could be charitably interpreted as a brag about winning so much of the black vote in the Democratic primaries, but still. Not okay.
I called this out in my Pro_Black stream as well.
However, what Biden did next was instructive.
1. He did something almost unheard-of for Trump: he apologized! (To my knowledge, the only thing Trump has ever apologized for is the “grab them by the pussy” comments)
2. And the next week, Biden had a much better response to the George Floyd Minneapolis protests than what Trump said, which was literally: “when the looting starts, the shooting starts.” Whether Trump knew it or not, these were words straight out of the mouth of a racist late-1960’s Miami police chief.

Bottom-line: nobody is perfect, and acknowledging our politicians’ mistakes is an important part of getting back to a political culture that isn’t black-and-white all the time but instead acknowledges the shades of gray in-between.
