Despite Ben Franklin's quip, we accept restrictions on our freedoms in the interest of security all the time.
The most basic way is in having a justice system that throws violent criminals in jail while they await trial and ultimately prison if convicted. We also put up with regulations requiring airbags in cars and other safety features.
The coronavirus response is no different in principle, just on a different scale. Everyone ought to do what they can to socially distance at this time because the virus is just that contagious and deadly.
This is done with the hope that we can save as many lives as we can until a real vaccine or cure arrives.
