You will see conservatives these days tell you to your face that the "mainstream media" in this country is controlled by nefarious forces and is the equivalent of Chinese state-backed propaganda.
Yeah... a free press that questions the President's narrative is in pretty much the exact opposite position of a state-backed Chinese media that regurgitates the Communist party line.
The Chinese Covid-19 origin conspiracy theories that place blame on America are more comparable to the "Wuhan lab" origin theories on the right in this country. And which have been given credence by no less than Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and President Trump himself, though without a shred of the extraordinary evidence that such an extraordinary claim would require. This origin theory has been flatly contradicted by our own intelligence agencies and scientists.

Other regimes around the world peddle their own official conspiracy theories about Covid-19, and they all share one thing in common: deflecting blame away from those in power.
I realize many think there's a nefarious agenda at work trying to undermine the President on a daily basis, but it's really just reality calling. There are quite simply some outlets that have a greater commitment to the truth than others. See chart.
There are left-wing fringe outlets too, for sure (again, see chart), but I don't think they've achieved the same success in constructing a completely alternative reality for a broad base of the population in this country.
