"Although medicine had made great strides since the end of the 19th century with the discovery of germ theory, doctors and scientists seemed to have been powerless against the flu, owing to the rapidly mutating nature of its virus. Responses instead focused on containing its spread. One of the most commonly promoted pieces of advice was to wear a mask." (1918 Spanish flu pandemic)
Okay, even if I accept your claim that in 1918, people were wearing masks to protect THEMSELVES...not to "protect" others (sources please)...do you believe that wearing a mask will NOT aid in containing the spread of COVID-19? Do you wear a mask when "out in public" to hopefully decrease the chances of either contracting or spreading the virus? I just can't understand why anyone would not wear a mask. If you wear a mask you will contain the spread...you may save your own life...you may save the lives of the other human beings walking around you...what is the problem? Take care and stay safe! :)
