For Trump to dare suggest he shares anything in common with Lincoln?
Defines how small and irrelevant Trump is

First Amendment | image tagged in first amendment | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
Much to Trump’s chagrin, we have a free and open press in this country, whose duty is to question the President’s narrative and hold him accountable.

He doesn’t understand this, because he comes from a professional background where he called the shots and if someone didn’t like it, they were fired.

Trump has peddled the concept of “fake news” and has even threatened his own libel suits in an effort to control bad press.

But the press is protected by the First Amendment and can say virtually anything they want about the President. Subject to their professional duties as journalists and the inevitable fact-checking and loss of reputation that would greet an exaggerated or invented story.

This has been going on since the beginning of our Republic. And I hope it continues that way forever — if, as Ben Franklin said, we can keep it.

But just Republican Presidents...right?

And the press doesn't stick to covering actual events, they even fabricate quite a few.
Hence the "fake news" sobriquet.

Never this much scrutiny of Clinton or Obama, though.

Take them with a grain of salt. Which is exactly what the press does when they ask questions. | Presidential press briefings are dog-and-pony shows | image tagged in memes, change my mind, freedom of the press, freedom of speech, press conference, trump press conference | made w/ Imgflip meme maker
I didn't watch many press conferences during the Obama years or the Trump years. It's just a platform for the President and his paid spokespeople to recite the party line.

The interesting part is where the press gets to ask questions, and we the viewers get to decide.

But Trump supporters disregard the back-and-forth, and even cheer Trump's gleeful bashing of the press at these things, and appear to regard Trump's every word as the living gospel.

Trump bashes the press: his supporters cheer. This is not partisanship but a description of reality.

The "living gospel" bit above was editorializing, but after 3+ years of this nonsense I think his supporters have earned it.

The press deserves it.
They invite it.
They thrive on it.
It makes them look like a victim.
They like victims.

No...he is the victim of a Biased Press.
A victiom of a Press that overwhelmingly does exactly what the DNC asks it to do.
That shold clear things up enough for even a bottom-feeding shyster like you to understand.

And not just “acting like a victim” either: actually telling you, straight to your face, that Trump — the world’s most powerful man, a multibillionaire, and a frankly nasty and ruthless human being — is the victim in all this, of a free press that just shows up to work every day to record what he says and do its job placing it into context and fact-checking it

You can’t make this stuff up, folks
3 ups, 5y
you misspelled biased again.
They don't simply "record what he says", they set him up and then either leave out the context or fabricate it to suit their agenda of the day.

And they do make this stuff up, folks. ( BTW..when the left starts using the term "folks", BOHICA)

Well, since you are a complete idiot, allow me to explain:
Trump was referring to how the press treated Lincoln...another controversial Republican President that they didn't understand or like.

I'm sure since Lincoln was President during our Civil War the press was a lot harder on him. Trump isn't even a Republican by the way. Why can't he just answer questions and stop crying about them?

Indeed, he did: and shut down newspapers for printing treason.

The Confederacy also jailed journalists, and even imposed the death penalty for carrying anti-slavery writings.

Did you know that...?

Different time. When states are in open rebellion and killing Americans, I could see those kinds of extreme actions being justified.

You asshole just like to nitpick about everybloodything.
Face it...in 2025, when Trump leaves office, you won't know what to do...you will have to find someone else to hate.
I am not worried, though...you guys hate everything.

BTW, I'm no fan of Biden and Hillary either. My family has been here since the late 1800's. We've had family in the military. But, Trump embarrasses me in front of my teenage children on a daily basis. The President of the United States, no matter the party, should be held to a higher standard. Believe me, Bill Clinton was no freaking example.
