The Occam’s Razor in me says Biden is just getting old. Trump isn’t looking too sharp these days either, honestly. How we got to the position of picking between two doddering old fools is beyond me.
How Biden won the primaries against some up-and-coming candidates (and the most demographically diverse candidate pool in any primary ever) with little advertising, no ground game, terrible debate performances, poor internet hype, lukewarm establishment backing, and middling fundraising is beyond me. It’s one of the bigger political mysteries of recent years, though perhaps not quite as earthshaking as Trump’s successful dark horse candidacy in ‘16.
I guess these more buzzworthy metrics of campaign momentum pale in comparison to sheer name recognition and my new theory of primaries: “The Boomers decide.” And that is all. There are quite simply a lot of them, and their voter turnout rate is very high.
Boomers were apparently scared by Sandersesque ”socialism” and voted accordingly.
