The United States Constitution and the attached Bill of Rights is a group of rules that OVERSEES THE GOVERNMENT. Our Constitution does not "Grant rights to the people". WE as a free society already have these INALIENABLE, GOD GIVEN RIGHTS. Our Constitution is the LAW that guarantees the Government can not take those rights away.

Article Six: Clause Two of the Constitution, federal laws made pursuant to the Constitution, and treaties made under Constitutional authority constitute the SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND.

It provides that state courts are BOUND BY THAT SUPREME LAW; in case of conflict between federal and state law, the federal law must be applied. Even state constitutions are subordinate to federal law.
