This is another reason why we need the Electoral College abolished or reformed yesterday.
If our Presidential elections were tallied by popular vote, the President would have to think of the whole nation at once, and would have no reason to weigh in on any one state in particular as it makes difficult decisions involving life, death, and the economy.
Instead — particularly since it is an election year — the President is incentivized to play partisan politics with Democratic governors in purple states and undermine their decision-making.
