Eh, no. He actually didn't consider lightsaber dueling very important and really only got good at it as a way to mock the Jedi or something. His lightsabers were designed less for practicality and more for looks, using a lot of a certain metal (that only high ranking Jedi masters were allowed to use) as another way to mock the Jedi.
Dooku's lightsaber wasn't too weird, and he was one of the best lightsaber duelists of his time. He used lightsaber form 2 because of its emphasis on blade to blade combat. Unfortunately, once Anakin tapped into his anger he was able to build up momentum that Dooku's style could not counter.
Maul got cocky and complacent and that's the reason obi-wan defeated him.
Anakin's (Vader's) biggest mistake was to not respect obi-wan's high ground :)
