I'm sorry, I shouldn't have put it that way. However, I've noticed that the article you gave has more opinions than facts, or portrays the facts inaccurately. No one who knows what they're talking about will say that knowing your personality will help find an ideal mate or land an ideal job. It's meant to give a general idea of your natural disposition.

And as for the changing personality type answers, yes, answers will change based on what the person is feeling. Obviously someone will answer questions somewhat differently when they're angry or depressed or stressed than if they are in a positive or neutral mood.

Also, as a person grows and matures as a person, their natural disposition will change as they become more aware of who they are, become sensitive to other's needs, and (if they are religious, like me) grow closer to God.

And also, more recent adaptations of the test have accounted for the flaws I haven't addressed in this reply.

Oh, and I bothered to click the link to the Wikipedia page for the OCEAN test, and it really covers almost all the same things Myer-Briggs does. It legit just uses different words and distributes the descriptions slightly differently.

And again, I'm sorry for being rude in my first reply. Please forgive me.

I hope you're having a great day, wherever you are!

I actually took your response more ad a joke, and wasn't offended. But thanks for the apology anyway, as I am having a bad day.

Well I don't know what I am. But I've taken random personality quizzes and when I read the answers, Im just like, oh that's me? Good to know... But I don't take it seriously. Sometimes it is what I am, but I still don't really CHANGE per say.

Great post thanks! I actually had never heard of those two tests but recently started reading about the Waldorff 4 temperaments which is a concept that can be traced back to ancient Greece. And it's probably similar to your tests. I found out I'm pretty much a choleric melancholic (most people are actually a combination of different personalities not just one) I think it really helped explain why I am the way I am. I like to be a leader for sure and have things my way but I'm also very sensitive. It is also helping me to understand my kids who are sometimes polar opposites of me and eachother.

I've actually never taken that test. I'll have to look into it. Thanks for telling me!

Ok, so I took the test, and I'm mostly phlegmatic, although I'm also somewhat melancholic. Thanks for telling me about this test!

Are these the tests you're referring to? I just wanted to add them here for reference. I'm sure a search of them will lead to online tests one could easily take top help determine one's personality. It's kinda fun.

Yep, thanks for doing that!

Well, I did take both tests but it was more out of curiosity and a general "let's see if the test is right". It didn't change me at all and, honestly, I don't even remember the results.

People told me they had this big enlightening moment when they found out but for me it was more of a "well, I guess that's partly right..." because none of the categories ever fit perfectly and I have definitely changed over time as well. So, I believe about as much in personality types as I do star signs.

People seem to use it as an explanation - and sometimes even an excuse - for acting a certain way which is just not how it works. If anything, how you act defines your character.

I don't know if I would think more about it and embrace the label if it fit me better, but I just don't seem to fit any categories. So it always seems like those tests are incomplete or just don't include me. This is probably not the answer you were looking for but this is me, I guess. 🤷

I totally understand that. Personality tests weren't meant to put people in a box; they were meant to help people understand themselves and others better. I myself don't fit any Myer-Briggs type perfectly. When I took that test, I was very close to 50/50 between INTJ and ISFP. But I was closer to INTJ, so that's what I go by. One thought is that in the Enneagram test, people will often end up with a number that is next to their real type, because they've unconsciously associated with that "wing personality" for a long time. But that's just a thought. Take care!

I suppose I'll have to get the ball rolling... My Enneagram type is 5, and while I don't fit perfectly into any one Myer-Briggs type (it's not so much black and white as it is which characteristics are dominant), I am most like an INTJ. Both are stereotypically known for being knowledge-seekers, who will learn everything they can.

When I learned I was these personality types, it really only made sense to me. I've been told many times that I'm an information sponge. This also explains my natural ability to make jokes by tying similar ideas and words together to make puns (for example: if a Caucasian Republican gives someone a useless item, is it a white elephant gift? Doubtless someone is gonna get triggered at that). This also explained why, when I was five years old, I burst into my mom and dad's room crying, "I don't know everything yet!!" That statement pretty much sums up us type fives.

However, so I don't seem like I'm bragging, I will list some downsides of being a 5/INTJ. Firstly, because I am an Introvert (that's what the I stands for), but also want to share my knowledge with others, I'm often torn in two over whether I should speak up or not. I usually do. However, because I have a bad habit of speaking faster than my brain can convert ideas into words, I occasionally don't get my ideas across accurately. And because I'm a 5, I often act fairly stoic (since 5's act based on logical thinking, rather than emotions), which some of my friends don't necessarily appreciate.

So there you go, my answer to my own question. Can't wait to see y'all's responses!
