I suppose that it might provide a sense of 'winning' the argument, discussion, or debate.

I wish that were true. I know two people whom I care about much, that were never able to just let something go. I (or anyone else) could say "Alright you have your opinion and I have mine so let us leave it at that.", and these two will literally follow the other person around the house or outside or call on the phone or message just to continue keep talking about it. And this just about even trivial subjects like the meaning of a band's lyrics or politics or who was the better Renaissance artist. And I frankly do not get it.

maybe you have been too kind to them so far? different people have different abilities when it comes to taking a hint. if you're the only one who tolerates it from them, they're going to torment you.

They don't exactly torment me, but I can think of better things to do with my time than trying to graciously bear their repeated attempts. Even saying Okay, you hold that view and it is fine, seems to set some folks off.

I have observed this, too. I have wondered if the offender is looking for some kind of emotional response from their opponent. For example, I have seen parents argue with their kids and just when you think it's over the parent comes back with something else. It's like they can't be satisified until the kid starts crying. In my mind, I think of Roman gladiators. It is not enough to beat your opponent in combat, you have kill him even though he's beaten. It's brutal and barbaric and abusive, IMO. While this might be an extreme case, it's possible all such folks are looking for some emotional of submission.

A lot of people just have the mindset that they always have to be right. I know plenty of people like that and it gets super annoying

Absolutely. I was in an argument with a girl in my school musical The Little Mermaid Jr (yeah I know the school babies us) which is adapted from the original musical. She told me that there is a song in out version called Sweet Child. I looked it up, it's not in our version. I told her that. She said that her aunt did our version of the musical last year and it was in. Her aunt is in college. Pretty sure they didn't do the musical made for middle schools in a college. I then pointed that out. She screams at me and says that I'm stupid and don't know anything and that she knows everything and that I have to trust her with everything because she is perfect and a Virgo.

I couldn't make this up if I tried. Some people are just narcissistic idiots.

What are the odds I’ve been in similar issues? Except the person I was arguing with has said their memory is bad (I have as well) many times.

I feel like getting bullied all through elementary school sort of prepared me for this. Basically what happened was I would get made fun of once a week. And then I normally received extremely vivid death threats every few months. It was pretty weird and I normally don’t like talking about it.

Wow. That's absolutely horrible. I completely understand if you don't like talking about it. I'm a girl and everyone that's mean to me are girls so whenever I've been bullied it's basically always verbal, but the only person who's ever given me a death threat has been myself.
I'm here for you if you, bro.

Meh, it’s in the past, and the more I think about it, the more I laugh because I thought how stupid the threats were. The only one I still don’t laugh at is the one I remember the most. Most of them weren’t that bad though. Every time I get threatened I just think about elementary school and laugh.

I think it helps to remember that a lot of times elementary school kids are saying things to say them, without actually meaning what they say. Like a yo' momma competition, the pijnt is who can come up with the best line, or in your case the most vivid death threat.

Meh, I’m still here right? It just shows how many people like to threaten others with empty threats.

You had me at compulsion. I do that and it's because I want to prove wrong whatever they last said. It's like I can't leave it undone almost.

I think I do it less than I used to, but it depends what the argument is about. If it's pointless I'll let it go without having to get in the last word but if it's an important matter I'm not backing down.

This reminds me of a meme (go figure, right?) The political one about a person not going to bed because someone was wrong in the internet.

Ah, I saw that too. I usually don't get in arguments over the internet

Yes, but how many times do they have to make the same point before realizing others have the right to express their points, too? And why the need to insure your point is the last one given? If one's point is the correct one, I would think making it once, twice at best, should suffice. After that, it tends to sound very childish.

It's a sense of that you won the argument. It's not always true though. I can be a little bit like this too.
