I view Politics_Redux as a space to discuss important, fundamental issues affecting the country (and the world) without necessarily engaging in the constant sniping at and defending of President Trump that we see daily in Politics and PoliticsTOO.
However, I do not believe adhering to the spirit of non-partisanship and the “Centrist Manifesto” requires me to refrain from criticizing the President in the face of such a grotesque abuse. At the end of the day, the office of President carries a lot of power, and the person who occupies that office should be able to withstand criticism in how he wields his power. As Truman would say, The Buck Stops Here.
But as Trump would say; “I don’t take responsibility at all.”
These tweets contradict Trump’s own re-opening guidelines, announced a few days ago, in which he said governors would be able to “call the shots.”
That was after earlier in the week when he claimed “total authority” as President regarding re-opening. The whiplash has been unusually severe even by Trumpian standards.
(Bear in mind, we never would have been in the situation of needing to shut down the entire country had Trump done his job, recognized the early warnings he was given, and taken action. Instead, he blew it off, labeled it “their new hoax,” and gave false assurances to the public through mid-March. He didn’t wake up until the stock market plunges forced his hand.)
Now, he’s found the perfect way to politicize and weaponize quarantines against political foes.
Our President, folks. Could he be this cynical and frightening? Yes, yes he could.
