This is the first step. It gets worse.

No it won't get worse because there will be no other steps. Americans have their freedoms and we still mostly have our right to assemble.(Not physically of course but technology is good enough now where large groups can talk online). If the government attempts to keep us on lockdown for too long or tries to overstep it will be painfully obvious. Right now there is a little bit of overstep but the lockdown is focused mostly on the virus. This is a time that sucks for all of us but we don't need to add more drama to the mix.

No I meant this is exactly how it started in Germany, the only difference is they used a different excuse. Of course we now know its only 0.1% death rate, so the whole thing was a fear mongering hoax.
