(not even a 'like'?)... Well, that was the whole 'arm-twisting' tactic of Pelosi, Schumer, and the rest of them... First Pelosi ridiculously loads up the Bill, 'aiming high', knowing that much/most of it would be removed -- yet enough would remain to be politically effective... IF the R's had then delayed to clean it up more, the 'Media' were ready to destroy them publicly (even though Pelosi herself had previously delayed).... The size of th $2.2 Trillion Bill also has the effect of turning-off many fiscal conservative voters (which Pelosi obviously knew would happen), so as to help them win back the Senate in November.... Some money that goes into many/most non-profit groups ultimately ends up being donated politically -- and the balance leans heavily toward 'D'..... SO, in a sense, the R's in Congress voted (in part) against their own re-elections, as well as Trump's re-election.

The strategy of Pelosi, et al., may not work, but you can be pretty sure that their minds are largely on winning in November -- and that every action/move they take/make is in a no small part towards that goal (and, in a sense, you can't blame them for trying).... Let's hope I'm wrong and it doesn't work that way.... Flipping every blame back onto Trump is par for the course however....

Well, I’m glad at least one conservative here has finally acknowledged what a big-government bill the CARES Act is.

It enjoyed bipartisan support because even Trump and the GOP realize these stimulus measures are broadly necessary to alleviate the effects of an unprecedented shutdown of economic activity.

I think that if anything, the CARES Act is going to actually help their re-elections because these measures are broadly popular with both workers and business.

Paying for it down the road is another matter, but that has never stopped our federal government from piling on the national debt for the last two decades.

Yes, it's the Economic 'shut-down' that 'necessitated' such action... but the shut-down is not directly due to the coronavirus, but rather a collection of responses to the coronavirus (which many question as possibly being over-reaching).... All we can say is 'time will tell', as a relative 'Fuster-Cluck' is still materializing. We don't know what will happen or change.
