Trump is not an idiot. He’s a political genius.
He spotted an opening for a xenophobic, know-nothing outsider in the GOP Primary field in ‘16, and he took it
He beat Hillary Clinton, despite losing by 3 million popular votes, by focusing on the anxieties of blue-collar whites in swing states
He has led the GOP in a totally new direction
And he has kept the Republican Party unified through relentless focus on the “real enemies”: Democrats, the media, the “deep state,” Mexico, China, Europeans, whomever.
Through endless obstruction and stonewalling and a compliant Senate, he effectively wrote impeachment out of the Constitution
He is a master of taking credit and deflecting blame
Everyone who keeps falling for his shtick though?
Yup. Total suckers.
