Actually, it's because in WWI, loads of people had it, but Spain was neutral, so it was legal to say they had it, but not legal to say anyone who was in the war had it.

The Spanish flu is actually from China and was called the Spanish flu due to their neutrality in ww1.

Everyone was racist 100 years ago, it's old history, that's why people aren't mad about "spanish flu." Also coronavirus isn't even a flu.
