Truman dropped two atom bombs that brought an end to a war started by Japan. Both my grandparents were in the armed services (one Army, one Marines) during WWII and they were slated to be a part of the mainland Japan invasion force. They could have died, in which case I wouldn't be here.
From where I sit today: Can I tell you that dropping the bombs wasn't the right call? No, I can't.
For what it's worth, Truman resisted calls from his generals to drop nuclear bombs on China in retaliation for their entry into the Korean War.
Neither one of these situations is in any way comparable to the coronavirus. China pulled out all the stops to prevent it from spreading but the disease is simply so contagious that it couldn't.
