Welp, it's called "closing borders" for a reason. Hopefully that should help contain the corona virus.

It won't... Closing the borders now is the same now as when we would have BEGUN to try to prevent Hitler to invade of the rest of Europe in 1942 (while he began doing that 1939 and 1940). The virus is already everywhere. Our only hope is that people who get infected survive and get immunity for a very long time, and that those who will not get infected during this outbreak can be vaccinated soon.

I have had microbiology for half a year, and to me it makes sense that all we can do is to allow the virus to come and get the stronger people infected so they get immune, and those people will in the progress protect the weaker people. Buying time so people who will get ill can still be treated without an overload on health care. Right now only the Netherlands and the UK are willing to go for that method, and the only method that actually makes sense and the only method that can be effective.

Of course, both the UK and the Netherlands have laws about everybody being insuranced for health care (and the insurance companies agree to this method, as far as I know), so people getting ill requiring treatment are sure to get it without extra costs. In the US, ObamaCare had to make sure the same effect would happen there, but since Trump stopped that project and many people not being insuranced that, that method could really get people into high costs....

However closing borders and total lockdowns won't work, as the virus is already there. All scientists agree on it, that it will never go away anymore (at least not in a few decades) and lockdowns will actually only assure a new (maybe even more dangerous) outbreak once the lockdown is over, and sooner or later the lockdown must be lifted.

So all in all... Since only little countries appear to be willing to take the route they got to take.... prepare for the worst. ☹

Maybe some country will make an effective treatment for the corona virus (or at least manage the symptoms). Yesterday, I was worried and scared that I'll never go back to school because of that and then I started crying. Education means so much to me, that I just wanted to get my Diploma and make my future a bright one for me. Speaking of that, I know it will ruin most people (if not all) lives. Which ever country makes a successful cure/vaccine for corona virus is going to be my hero.

Well, scientists are not sitting still. In the Netherlands they are now trying a 100 years old vaccin which might be able to prevent corona infection, and some existing medications which can help appear hopeful. Most notable medicines used to fight malaria and AIDS appear to be good candidates to fight corona on the short term. Most notably the medicine against AIDS surprised me, but it seems to be hopeful.

When it comes to herd immunity, in which stronger people just get infected and were we overprotect the weak, the issue is that strong people being infected will likely suffer nothing more than a cold or a light flu, so they are now creating tests to see who has built up immunity, as people are are immune should be able to walk around freely without anybody stopping them, since they are not endangering anybody... as a matter of fact, should they get infected again, the virus would be powerless and not be able to get to somebody else... At least that's the theory. The only downside is, that because of the virus being new, nobody knows how long immunity lasts, but any form of quarantine at all will work counterproductive in finding it out, so once these tests can be used on a large scale , and scientist in the Netherlands were pretty hopeful on that one, things can go pretty fast....

Of course, I only know about some Dutch developments, as I bet other countries are working hard as well. When it comes to your diploma... I wouldn't worry too much, as basically this year may be wasted for many students, and school systems must take all this into account, although I do know that schooling is quite expensive in the US. Europe has compensation for schooling by default, which makes things a bit easier. I hate to be the bringer of bad news, but I must be honest...

But at least I did hear some news that is hopeful. I am now having some trouble with my nose, and lungs myself... nothing serious, and I am already recovering.... It's strange, as now I hope it was corona... if it was, I'll be immune soon...

Well at least there were some good news for that (about the diploma part I said, I'm in 10th and I worried that this corona virus chaos would last more than 2 years and I thought that I end up losing that opportunity to earn it by then).

Well, an official vaccine can take years, unfortunately... This because of the strict testing rules new vaccines and medicines must pass... But when medicines already in use for AIDS can stop corona, no new tests have to be applies, as this medicine already exists and is in active use already, only for a different purpose, but that is not what matters. All they have to do now is testing of it really works against corona, and that can take a few months and with a little bit of luck even shorter.

So in other words, if there is no vaccine within 2 years, it's not likely the chaos will take that long... The world economy also wouldn't be able to take it, so speed is an issue. But of course, safety is an issue too. The vaccine against Mexican Flu (or whatever it's called in English) was created in a panic and people who were vaccinated now suffer permanent damage on some vital body functions... They do not want that to happen again. So you gotta be careful....

I sure hope that as soon as everyone is ok again, China will officially *Bleep*-ing apologize (excuse what I just said, I'm sorry if I'm saying of that bad and ugly things about China, it's just that it's traumatizing to me and it would probably be hard to forgive, normally I forgive).

When this began in China people thought it would remain there... However when the virus "magically" popped up in Italy without proper explanation, people still kept claiming the scenario we're in now wouldn't happen, and from that moment on I knew it would. I mean, if the virus can pop up in Italy without explanation, there must be ways for the virus to travel the world without anybody knowing it.

The explanation lies most likely in that corona is not is bad is it looks like, which is a pro and a con. The con is that it can therefore spread without anybody noticing, as most infected people will hardly notice the difference with having a cold. It's only because the virus is new we cannot protect elderly people and other weaker people and the people who got killed by the virus, are the result of that, as the body has no natural protection yet. Older flu viruses did cause some people to get protected. And that's something we didn't take into account. We only checked for people who fell victim for the worst case scenario, while the lighter cases were actually the "evil" ones as they would go on undetected, completely unaware themselves they were infected. Some people were not immune, but didn't even notice any effect at all. I don't think we can blame China for this.... The fact that we over estimated the virus because of the killer effect it had on weaker people, not realizing stronger people could have lesser effects is the evil here.

A virus like Ebola that is by far more severe even in the lightest cases would not have spread so easily undetected, as even in the best case scenario the effects on your body are so devastating (and without treatment 100% chance of being lethal), the virus would always be detected. Corona's effect varying from nearly no effect at all to serious illnesses and even death, that is what made it so treacherous. And as China was the first country to get hit, they could not be properly prepared... The rest of the world though... should have responded sooner, especially when the virus turned up in Italy....

Well, that's true. But, I still have no idea how some people recovered. Also, Russia closed up its borders early because of that (I can't believe I'm saying this on American soil, but why on Earth haven't we thought of that sooner? I mean, it could've prevented lots of death in the U.S.). But, as long as we're careful, we should be ok. And I'm very, very sorry if I'm being scared and angry (with lots of frustration and tears) because of Corona virus, to be honest with you.

Keep in mind that Russia borders directly to China, so no matter what kind or country Russia is, closing borders was for Russia a logical thing to do based on the knowledge we had when the outbreak in China began, since we didn't know that the virus was not as strong as we thought it was.

Know this, the younger you are the higher the chance for recovery or even not getting ill at all when you get infected, without requirement for medical treatment and and maybe not knowing you were infected in the first place. Since I've the feeling you are still pretty young, I would not really fear the virus itself if I were you.

ANd thanks for the hug... At least digital hugs are not dangerous at all ;)

No problem, I just thought a digital hug would cheer me up, after all I get emotional sometimes. :')
