It's actually from the 'R' word, which is an attribute of your image.

That is WEIRD... here’s what I’m seeing

The 'NSFW' indication should be just below the bottom of this screen shot, in the same box as "Created with the imgflip Meme Generator."

It shows No checkmark at all in the NSFW box. By the way, what “R” word?

The 'NSFW' box for your flip settings is different. Yes, the text could be more clear. But those four boxes let you select what types of content you see while you're browsing through imgflip. If that 'NSFW' box is unchecked, you won't see any content that's been tagged as NSFW. If you unchecked the 'gifs,' you wouldn't see any of them while you're browsing.
Yes, it would probably make more sense if your browsing settings were only on your settings page, but they're also shown as part of each content item. I hope that helps!

The 'R' word is "Retard," as part of "Full Retard Senator Elizabeth Warren."
It's apparently one of the naughty words which automatically tags your content as NSFW, even if you don't check that box yourself.
You should be able to see "Full Retard Senator Elizabeth Warren" on your screen, which was apparently the file name of the image you used for your meme.
