What is this and why do we need it? Is there a way to turn it off?

I actually like it. A couple of times over the past week, I accidentally skipped over people who replied to me. Next thing I know, there's this new format that allows me to see what I've replied to and upvoted. Now if I forget to upvote someone, I'll know just by glancing over the above setup

I am going to say what I DO like about it. Since they won't give us a "read" or "unread" option, this will be just as good as if they did. It will separate the acknowledged from the unacknowledged. There's the good in this thing.
