the fruit came first, before then the colour orange was just a shade of red at least according to QI (british tv show).

So, the fruit is named after the color, not the other way around. Look it up if you don't belive me.

The fruit was named before the color. I believe the name came from somewhere in the Middle East several centuries ago.
