Wrong, it's a symbol of freedom. The poem wasn't added until 1903 (statue was dedicated in 1886).
We're pro LEGAL immigration. The poem invites them to come through the front door, not sneak in like a thief.

The words "but do it through a legal port of entry" is not in there. The words "but not from shithole countries" is not in there - in fact, she calls them the "wretched refuse" and she tells them to go for it. She is named the Mother of Exiles, and guess what? An exile is a refugee.

Do you know what "wretched refuse" means? The immigrants are basically being called rejected garbage in the poem. The person who wrote that poem must've been a racist lefty because they're basically implying that the "garbage" is coming from shitholes. Obviously you either verified it or found something indicating the contrary. If it was the latter, you would have posted it here. Since you haven't bothered to refute it, the fact still stands, as they tend to.
