I don't dispute electoral college, but it's still a somewhat democratic system.
Timber, a right to vote is what makes a democracy.
You can have a republic which has a democracy, even if it's representative.
It's not either/or.
Very simply, democracy is not always a direct one.

Why does 50% - 1 supporting something make it right? That is basically all the Electoral College does. It picks a winner in a counter-majoritarian way, nothing more.

Minority and individual rights are protected by the judiciary. Not the party hacks who convene every 4 years and vote the way their state told them to vote.

Clarification: Most of the time, the Electoral College does *not* pick winners in a counter-majoritarian way but merely picks the popular-vote winner in which case it is redundant

Every time it doesn’t though it is being counter-majoritarian, and in the last election, to the tune of 3 million votes
