"Het slaat als een tang op een varken" which literally translates to "It hits like a pair of thongs on a pig".
If think that doesn't make sense, well that is what it means... The idiom means that something does not makes sense and is really bullshit that cannot be.

Well, that really doesn't make sense. 😂 Kinda reminds me of the German "da wird ja der Hund in der Pfanne verrückt" - literally "that makes the dog go crazy in the pan" - meaning something is outrageous. Nobody really knows why the dog is in a pan or how it got there... 😅🙈

I wonder if it's related to the Dutch idiom "De hond in de pot vinden", which literally means "Finding the dog in the pot/pan", which means that you got home and all food is home, so you can stay hungry.

fascinating 🤔 But that sounds a bit like it could've originally been quite a literal statement... You know, you get home and instead of the food you expected to find in the pot your dog is in there and ate it all... Just speculation though. But if that's the case it could've lead to the German saying later... Like, the dog goes crazy because even he couldn't find any food in the pot/pan... 🤷

Yeah, that is indeed a possible theory.

Oh yeah funny thing is that there is a book called "Lass mal sitzen", which is a literal transation of "Laat maar zitten" which means "never mind", and the book is about very funny mistakes made by Dutch people try to speak German (This page on a Dutch web shop shows it and you can even look at the first 13 pages: https://www.bol.com/nl/p/lass-mal-sitzen/1001004007515026/?bltg=itm_event%3Dclick%26mmt_id%3DXi-4yKSk9BjQT8ljSPCXagAABD4%26slt_type%3Drecommendations%26pg_nm%3Dpdp%26slt_id%3Dprd_reco%26slt_nm%3Dproduct_recommendations%26slt_pos%3DC1%26slt_owner%3Dccs%26itm_type%3Dproduct%26itm_lp%3D2%26itm_id%3D1001004007515026&bltgh=sF7BSKQM-vzHDTEUvnpNFA.1_7_8.10.ProductTitle# )... Of course you'll need to speak Dutch well to understand how Dutch people can come up with those mistakes like "Under der Knie haben").... The writer was inspired by "I always get my sin" which tells about Dutch people making mistakes when speaking English, and the writer of "Lass mahl sitzen" is a German now living in the Netherlands. Since you do know Dutch a little that book may make a nice read although it was written for a Dutch audience.

I've made you a co-owner of the stream. Do you think the Stream Description needs any update?

I think the rules are generally fine, although I can only read the top line, I had to create a quick test meme to see the "be respectful" "nsfw" kind of rules... The only things I'm not 100% sure about as those can be kind of subjects that can easily go out of hand are politics and religion. As long as those subjects can be memed without much trouble I'm fine with those (I made fun of a Dutch politician myself here, and I do not wanna be a hypocrite), but if trouble arises, an update can be required. What do you think?

Here's the full Stream Description:

"Foreign Language Memes are allowed here, subject to the Imgflip Terms of Use. Languages other than English are encouraged, but captions in English are not prohibited. In order for submissions to this stream to be reviewed and featured, all visible text in submitted creations must be captions added with the Imgflip generators."

There have been some submissions recently where the text was part the image and not added with the Meme Generator. I can't translate submissions like those, so I don't know if those submissions are inside the Terms or not.

Do you think the part of the Stream Description "all visible text in submitted creations must be captions added with the Imgflip generators." is a reasonable requirement?

At least for submissions in languages none of the moderators understand. I mean submissions in Dutch are easy for me since that is my native language. But when they post in Russian, then I really need Google Translator. However to play it safe (also since to keep the stream accessible for those who don't speak Dutch or any other language the moderators speak, it can indeed be a good idea, to keep text in caption only (or to provide it in a comment in text prior to submitting).
