Yes, if you get a downvote, one upvote will be taken away. So, say you have 14 upvotes, then you get one downvote, well, now you have 13 upvotes.

I'm not sure about that. I thought downvotes on their own did nothing, but if you get enough your meme will be unfeatured. I remember ProductiveDuck asked a similar question before because he made an upvote begging meme and it got loads of downvotes.

The only thing I know about downvotes is that comments with "too many downvotes" (no matter how many upvotes there are) will get hidden (although you can still click to see them).... How this goes for memes themselves still remains a mystery to me.

I think they're have a use but its just unknown as many things

I honestly have no idea. Maybe it's just so that the person who downvotes it feels superior even though they're not.
