It's not an actual attempt to insult the audience, like some other Hollywood movies lately.
Once you can shift your focus past the "what the heck am I watching" character design (or if you can shift your focus past that), the choreography is pretty good, and the movie seems like it was made with interest and passion.
It's kind of like when a little brother or sister tries to do something cool, and fails miserably: you can't hate them for trying.
