don't let the euphemism "Christian" lull you into a false sense of comfortable familiarity.
the blanket term "Christian" is fairly new in it's execution.starting in around the late 60's.
before that "Christians" had serious theological differences, that some times erupted into violence.
a person can claim to be a "Christian",and be part of the westboro Baptist church,or a Mormon,or a jehovahs witness.all decidedly different takes on the written word.
my brother in law is a devout Lutheran, and possibly the only fundamentalist Lutheran I know.
he absolutely adores meeting other brethren in Christ.he lights up like a Christmas tree and becomes so animated and excited.
one of my favorite past times is to introduce him to other "Christians" and watch him engage with an enthusiasm that is adorable, only to let him know a few minutes in that the person he is so excited about is a Mormon,or jehovas witness.
he literally, and visibly, deflates in front of me.
what did we learn?
1.i am a dick to my brother in law.
2.not all "Christians" are cut from the same cloth.there are inherent and epistemological difference within the Christian faith, and some of those outliers are extremely radical, and sometimes violent.
this is why the separation between church and state is such a vital aspect of our country.
just food for thought, and my .02
