How is it still oil people if USA is nearly energy independant?.
If USA is technically self sufficient but some producers export it, so some import still needs to occur then it doesn't seem Oil is the reason anymore. They could ban the export of petro to eliminate the shortfall but production is still increasing so this becomes less problematic.
I'm sure arms sales wouldn't decline if they steped out of there. So why be there?
Maybe they really are attempting to withdraw from the region and military industrial players are doing their best to keep USA in.
