As shown here, red shirts were technical / support roles such as Scotty with Engineering, Uhura as Communications / Linguistics, and, of course, Security (who were the “cannon fodder” red shirts I was referencing).
It’s ok, I’m still learning a lot about many things, too! And let’s not forget all the new challenges new technologies keep presenting us, lol. As long as we have fun and enjoy it, it’s all good.
I have often wondered the same. Does anyone have an official explanation? My guess is that red is a high visibility danger symbol so they thought it should be associated with Command leadership.
In the original series perhaps red helped hide spilled blood as support teams did work that could lead to serious injury unlike administrative jobs! ;)
